Andrea Atzeni went on to bring up a 335/1 treble when partnering Star Cactus (Simon & Ed Crisford, 6/1) to victory in the seven-furlong Frimley NHS Foundation Ascot Volunteer Drivers Nursery (4.45pm, 8 runners). The two-year-old Uncle Mo filly got up in the final strides to deny The Queen’s Collinsbay (Richard Hannon/Ryan Moore, 11/4 Fav) by a head.
Atzeni said: “Star Cactus had run two nice races before this weekend. It was the first time I have ridden her; I spoke to Ed Crisford before the race and he liked her chances. She was obviously taking on the colts, but she travelled quite nicely. At one stage it looked like Ryan [Moore, riding The Queen’s Collinsbay, second] but, to be fair to my filly, she stuck her neck out and galloped all the way to the line. It was probably quite a nice performance.
“Looking at the way she finished, you think she would get a bit further, certainly from the way she galloped out, I’d say why not. Her American pedigree is probably why the ground was important for her – she is a proper fast ground filly, and although there has been rain, it hasn’t really got in. It’s made it a bit loose on top but it’s still firm underneath.”

The day came to a close with the John Guest Racing Brown Jack Handicap (5.20pm, six runners) over two miles, which saw bottom-weight Table Mountain (Andrew Balding/Raul Da Silva, 9/2) get the better of 15/8 favourite Scaramanga (Paul Nicholls/Frankie Dettori) by four and three-quarter lengths.
Andrew Balding said: “I am really delighted, because Raul has been riding out for us since the spring and he really deserved this. He rides really well and deserves more chances.
“And lovely for my mother, who bred Table Mountain. It’s quite apt because her grandfather [Aubrey Hastings] bought Brown Jack and trained him, so she will be thrilled to have won this race.”
Raul Da Silva said: “I was very happy with Table Mountain, who had been working well since her last run here. She had entries here and at Newmarket and the boss said that she would definitely go better here. The rain came at the right time as I think she likes soft ground as well. Thank you to the boss for the opportunity. She keeps going the right way and is still a bit of a baby. It’s good to win a nice race today.
“To see Enable today was great. She is a beautiful filly and it is good for Frankie Dettori – he is a very nice person and a good jockey.”
