Jeremiah comes out on top in tremendous finish to Betfred ‘Fred’s Pushes’ Handicap

Jeremiah (Charlie Fellowes/Jim Crowley, 8/1) just came out on top following a real duel with Sam Cooke (Ralph Beckett/Harry Bentley, 5/1) in the mile and a half Betfred ‘Fred’s Pushes’ Handicap.

The pair pulled right away from the rest of the field inside the final quarter mile and after a head-to-head battle, it was Jeremiah who prevailed by the minimum distance of a nose. There was a further five lengths back to Koeman (Mick Channon/John Egan, 40/1) in third.

Charlies Fellowes said: “First and foremost, I can’t underestimate the performance from the team to get this horse’s head back in front. Not only did he have a horrible injury two years ago, but he is not the most straightforward horse to train as he is very quirky, so it is unbelievable to get his head back in front. Jim [Crowley] gave him a lovely ride and was very confident on him. He has lots of ability but he really is quirky. We saw the head-on at York and if we had finished the other way round, I would have been confident of getting it in the stewards’ room.

“I’m definitely not ruling out the Ebor as you can’t rule out a race like that. I will speak to Jim and see what he thinks about stepping up in trip. He travelled very well today and is not short of speed. He didn’t stay two miles in the Northumberland Plate and whether he would stay a mile six, I am not sure.”
